IRC is not a right but a privilege!
You don't pay anything to access
the IRC server. Always keep
that in mind.
The admins of the IRC server
let you access a service on
their computer! It is their
good right and the right of
the people whom they trust,
the IRCops (often called opers)
on that server, to deny access
to anyone they want without
any reason at all.
So if they remove you it probably
really is because you did something
bad. Nobody wants troublemakers.
You should read the MOTD (by
doing /motd) to inform yourself
about the policy (view by doing
/rules) of the server (if bots
are allowed and such) and try
to not break those rules. Well
it might also be that you were
K-lined or Akilled because
the whole provider was blocked,
banned or similar. It's very
hard to distinguish users with
a dynamic IP. (In such case
unfortunately also innocent
users are affected.)
If you think this is the reason
or that it was an error you
can always do /admin to get
the administrative contact.
Then write a polite email asking
them for the reason and background
information about the action
or even, if it's a K-line or
Akill, to remove it.
You probably know the best
whether you were doing something
nasty or not. It's your job
to prove that you are innocent
(by attaching some relevant
log files for example) so the
Admin can review your argument
and fix any errors on our part.
You can email us with any
questions at: Admin@StaticZone.Net
When it comes to registered
nicknames/channels and other
services abuse we look at each
individual case separately.
In some cases, owning 2 nicknames/channels
may be abusive and in others
5 or 10 nicknames/channels
might not be abusive; it all
depends on the circumstances
they were registered under,
how often they are used, and
other factors. Don't ask us
to publish the rules, we won't.
Nickname/Channel Registration:
Please, do not register more
nicknames/channels than you
can reasonably use. Use common
sense, if you need a script
to identify to all of your
nicks/channels because it will
take you more than a few seconds,
you may have too many. Nickname/Channel
registrations are logged and
monitored for excess. In the
event that you have obtained
an excess amount, some (or
all) of the nicks may be frozen
or dropped by StaticZone IRC Network administration
depending on the amount that
you have registered and possibly
even result in denial of access
to Services all together.
Memoserv Spamming/Flooding:
Memoserv is there for the
purpose of leaving memos (as
the name implies). It is not
designed to be a replacement
for email nor intended to be
used for the harrassment of
other StaticZone IRC Network users. Abuse
of Memoserv to harrass other
StaticZone users will not be
tolerated and will result in
a loss of Services access.
CTCP Flood to Services
Any user found flooding services
in any way will be removed
from the network and the punishment
will be determined according
to the StaticZone Admin discretion.
Mass Advertising
Any user found Mass Advertising
in any way will be removed
from the network and the punishment
will be determined according
to the StaticZone Admin discretion.
For a brief explanation of
Mass Advertising please see
below.
Definition of Unsolicited/Mass
Advertising.
Messaging users to join channels,
visit web sites, go to other
IRC networks, etc.
/invite -ing users to channels.
On-join messaging of users
to join channels, visit web
sites, or go to other IRC networks,
also known as "autogreet".
Excessive use of /quit messages
to advertise channels, web
sites, IRC servers, scripts,
etc.
Use of IRC commands such as
CTCP to advertise or invite.
Unsolicited email to network
mailing lists, the purpose
of said email which is to advertise
web sites, software, channels,
other IRC networks, etc.
Obligations of Internet Service
Providers, Web Hosts, and Shell
Providers
StaticZone regularly notifies
ISPs, Web Hosts, and Shell
Providers (hereafter referred
to as Providers) of abuse by
their customers. In return,
StaticZone expects that these
Providers will (within 3-5
days of receipt of abuse logs)
enforce their respective Acceptable
Use Policies with regard to
these users. Typical Provider
responses to customer abuse
on StaticZone are: warning the
user & "flagging" the
account, suspending the user's
account, and termination of
the account. We also expect
that the Providers will notify
us that action has been taken
against the abusive user. If
after several attempts to notify
the Provider, StaticZone determines
that the Provider has not taken
action against the abusive
user(s), StaticZone will take
further network action against
the Provider itself. Such actions
include placing a wider ban
on the regional Point of Presence
or on the domain itself. These
further actions taken by StaticZone
will then remain in effect
until such time as the Provider
not only contacts us and resolves
the current abuse issues, but
also makes arrangements to
maintain effective communication
with StaticZone regarding any
further abuse issues. StaticZone
reserves the right to enforce
this policy at any time when
we deem that the Provider has
failed to meet their obligations
to us.
